Poppy Ntshongwana not only has the angelic voice for radio, but her presence behind the DJ box and owning a stage as an MC, has undoubtedly become a force to be reckoned with. She’s been the master of ceremonies at some of the biggest events on the social calendar including, The David Guetta and Akon Experience in SA, GQ’s Best Dressed Men Awards and Cosmopolitan’s Sexiest Man event.
Poppy was born in the Eastern Cape and grew up in Pretoria. She attended boarding school in Grahamstown at the Diocesan School for Girls. Always having a passion for Drama and the Performing Arts at school, Poppy knew her dream would be in broadcasting, which lead her to pursue what now is a growing career.
Her career in radio began in 2003, when she was studying at the University of Pretoria, as a presenter on the campus radio station, TUKSFM. She joined the biggest national youth radio station 5FM after being head hunted in 2005. She is now a Contributor on the Fresh Drive. She also been presenting her own show since 2007, and has recently taken over Tuesday night’s Pop Power Nights on 5FM. She also presents a fun, lifestyle show on Sunday between 10:00 – 14:00.
As a young and adventurous spirit, Poppy loves to get involved in new endeavors, such as Shark Cage Diving, Skiing and Surfing. She has an obsession with fashion, and contributes as a fashion guru in Heat Magazine. She won the SA Style Award for most Innovative Style in 2010 and was nominated for a G-Sport Award for Best Style in 2011. She’s been featured in most lifestyle publications, as a stylish, fun and hard-working individual, as well as on the covers of Shape Magazine and Top Billing Magazine.
She’s exceptionally ambitious, driven and determined. Other than being on Radio, DJing and MCing, Poppy has been involved in numerous TV projects, as well as fashion and beauty campaigns.
